Offers a variety of services for youth.
Milieu offers a variety of services for youth to reach their goals and become active members in their community, including:

SYVC Activity Group: Offers a variety of activities for youth ages 13 to 18 to join during the spring, summer and winter holiday breaks that provide an alternative option to stay engaged in positive peer interactions. MCFD referral is required.

Teen Activity Group: The Teen Activity Group (TAG) is designed for young people aged 12-15 who are interested in connecting with a positive peer group. Youth will have the opportunity to participate in recreational and art-based activities at no cost.
Meeting Time: Wednesday @ 4:00 PM at SVYC. Must have an MCFD referral to participate. Eligibility: Any youth ages 12-15 with an active MCFD referral are eligible to participate in TAG. For more information, taya.norman@milieu.ca

The LGBTQIA2S+ Activity Group: is for young people who are looking for a safe and non-judgmental space to meet new friends. Youth will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities at no cost.
Meeting Time: Friday @ 4 PM at SVYC. No referral or registration is necessary. Eligibility: Any youth ages 12-18 years old are eligible to participate in the LGBTIA2S+ Activity Group.

Teens who SHINE Group: Empowering youth through skill-building and activities to promote emotional development and resilience. Youth learn to understand and manage emotions, effective coping strategies and the importance of empathy. MCFD referral is required.

REC (recreation) Group: is for young people between the ages of 12-18. It focuses on exploring various recreational activities in the community, such as swimming, badminton, or mini-golf.

Volunteer Group: The Volunteer Group meets every Tuesday at the SVYC to work toward a 10-hour volunteer certificate. Each week, a different volunteer activity will be posted on the SVYC Instagram page for you to participate in.
Meeting Time: Tuesday @ 4:00 PM at SVYC on a drop-in basis. No referral or registration is necessary. Eligibility: Any youth ages 13-15 with an active MCFD referral is eligible to participate in the Volunteer Group.

Chill Talk: is a space for youth to chat with like-minded people and learn about what others are experiencing in their lives. Every week will cover a different conversation topic and be followed by a complimentary dinner. Some past topics include self-advocacy, bullying, and social skills. - Resource Room: Youth aged 12 – 24 can access the Resource Room on a drop-in basis from 9 am – 6:30 pm, Monday to Friday where they will find internet, computer and telephone access, assistance with resume writing, help with finding housing, assistance in accessing educational services or other community services and information on other available supports. Youth workers are available to provide one-on-one assistance.

Transition to Adult Services: provides Transition to Adult services and offers creative and flexible support services to youth in the Vancouver area. Youth must be referred by MCFD. Using one-to-one outreach services and groups, youth workers help youth achieve their goals, learn new skills and become more self-reliant. Services are generally provided for six months but can continue up to one year.

South Vancouver Learning Centre (SVLC): Offers services to at-risk youth aged 12 –18 years in grades 8, 9, and 10 that build on existing strengths and provide opportunities in academics, literacy, life skills, vocational skills, self-care, volunteer and community involvement and computer skills. Youth can attend for a full day, in the evening or part-time depending on their needs.

Referrals for inter-agency programs require an MCFD Social Worker or Youth Justice referral; school staff do not have direct access to refer students to these programs. Referrals are accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the year and reviewed by an MCFD/VSB screening committee to determine eligibility, placement, and priority. There are approximately 20 students per academic year.

The Foster Family Team: Provides direct intensive support services to Foster parents and Out Of Care caregivers for difficult-to-serve children and youth in long-term foster homes. The program recognizes that these children/youth benefit from the stability and continuity of long-term, family care, and that their needs and those of the caregiver are complex and interactive.

Family Counselling Service: Milieu provides counselling services to youth aged 12 to 18 and their families in Vancouver. Counsellors hold either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and have extensive experience supporting families and youth through a trauma-informed approach. A referral from an MCFD social worker or probation officer is required. Services are offered in family homes, community settings, or private counselling rooms at the South Vancouver Youth Centre.
