Specialty Health Programs - YMCA of Southern Interior BC

Health programs specifically designed to address COPD, healthy aging, and hearts, healthy hips and knees, consistent exercising, and overall movement!
The following specialized programs included in membership at the Y are designed to improve health, preventing and treating many chronic diseases through movement. All programs are accessible for people of all mobility and fitness levels to participate in with the support of certified instructors (CSEP-Clinical Exercise Physiologists), and are offered in the three Kelowna YMCA facilities.

Please book an initial assessment and program design with one of the health coaches prior to starting any of the following programs:
  • Breathe Well: YMCA and Interior Health offers this respiratory rehab and exercise program which is designed specifically for people with mild COPD and other respiratory conditions to exercise. This program is included with a YMCA membership; no extra cost associated. NOTE: People with moderate to severe COPD should attend the Kelowna General Hospital’s respiratory rehab prior to enrolling in this program.
  • Healthy Aging: This program provides the support needed to find activities that enhance quality of life, maintain independence, and contribute to healthy aging. This program is designed for those who are physically inactive and live with chronic pain or a chronic condition.
  • Healthy Hearts: This program is ideal for anyone wanting to prevent or recover from a cardiac event. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, group stretching, and individualized exercise programming results in maintaining and improving overall health. This program is included with a YMCA membership; no extra cost associated.
  • Healthy Hips & Knees: This program is designed for people who are awaiting total hip or knee replacement surgery, OR those who have recently had surgery. Individualized programs focus on increasing strength, endurance, flexibility and balance with regular progress assessments. This program is included with a YMCA membership; no extra cost associated.
  • Small Steps for Big Changes: This program is designed for those who struggle with exercising consistently to learn how to incorporate physical activity into daily routine. Instructors also provide support needed to improve diet, set realistic goals, measure progress and build healthy habits.

YMCA Monthly Memberships are all inclusive, including full access to the fitness centre and pool, as well as all fitness classes and programs listed above
  • Adult: $64.00 per month
  • Senior: $52.00 per month
  • The YMCA Financial Assistance Program serves those who have the greatest need in our communities. Assistance is provided for those who wish to register for membership, programs, or camps, but who face financial barriers.
