Employment Insurance - Compassionate Care Benefit

Available to EI eligible workers who must be absent from work to provide care or support to a family member who has a serious medical condition with a significant risk of death within 26 weeks.
Compassionate care benefits are Employment Insurance (EI) benefits paid to people who have to be away from work temporarily to provide care or support to a family member who is gravely ill and who has a significant risk of death. A maximum of 26 weeks of compassionate care benefits may be paid to eligible people.

Applications and help/information can be found at local Service Canada locations. Calls are taken Monday to Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Application form can be accessed online 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
