  • Have their home address in Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, or Richmond
  • Have a confirmed or suspected developmental delay or disability
  • Require Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy* and/or support from our community feeding team

Key Worker Program:
FASD & Key Worker Support Services provides support to families of children and youth with complex developmental behavioural conditions (CDBC) including Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Key Workers aim to enhance and maintain the stability of families, and to support inclusion of children and youth in family, school, and community life.
  • This program serves children and youth up to 19 years of age, and their families or caregivers, residing in Burnaby who have confirmed or probable diagnosis of FASD or CDBC. The child or youth presents challenges affecting more than one area of life resulting in heightened family stress, school breakdown and/or community breakdown.

  • Services may be delivered in a variety of environments and may change as children and youth grow. Locations include the BC Centre for Ability Vancouver office, Burnaby office at the Metrotown Community Resource Centre, home, community settings or school facilities.

  • Families and community partners can refer directly by completing an online referral form on BC Centre for Ability’s website. Once the referral form is completed, a Key Worker will be in contact shortly with the family.

Supported Child Development Program (SCD):
Assists families of children who require additional support to access inclusive child care programs. Working with daycares, preschools, family daycares and out of school care programs, they provide consultation services and extra staffing assistance to ensure inclusive practices for children who have a demonstrated need for extra support.
  • They also provide help and information to parents so they can access the kind of care that best suits their child’s needs, and administer financial support on behalf of the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

  • SCD provides support for child care staff, families and their children, up to 12 years of age, in licensed daycare, preschool or out of school care programs. Youth, 13 to 19 years of age are considered on an individual basis. Children and youth who reside or attend a child care program in Vancouver or Burnaby are eligible for SCD services from the BC Centre for Ability.

  • Aboriginal Supported Child Development (ASCD) Programs support Indigenous children who require additional support in a childcare setting. Families with children who are living or attending childcare programs in the Burnaby, New Westminster and Tri-cities area can access ASCD at Spirit of the Children. Families with children who are living or attending childcare programs in Vancouver can access ASCD at Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society.
