Market Greens Prescription (Rx) Program - Kiwassa Community Market Food Program

A food subsidy program for people with diet-related health challenges.
Market Greens is a research program that tracks how fresh fruits and vegetables can make a difference to health and well-being. The Rx Program gives participants a gift card to use at the market, for up to 20 weeks, to buy fruits and vegetables to make it easier to add them into their regular diet.
To be eligible, participants must be:
  • Managing a chronic, diet-related health condition* (or have a familial history of one of these conditions). Eligible health conditions: type II diabetes, stroke, hypertension (high blood pressure), insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance, obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, coronary heart disease, high or abnormal lipids, high or abnormal cholesterol.
  • Experiencing regular gaps in accessing healthy, fresh food, and
  • Agree to answer 3 anonymous surveys re: diet and health.

The program provides access to affordable fresh fruits and vegetables through a weekly not-for-profit produce market. The market operates year-round and offers a variety of fresh produce at low cost to support healthy eating and food access within the community. Free produce items may also be available, and no purchase is required to receive them. The market is open to everyone and takes place every Wednesday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
