Elders' Program - A Social Program for Indigenous Elders

Provided by Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society (VAFCS)

The Elder’s Program provides a nourishing environment for elders to apply and maintain their traditional practices in a social environment.
Elders' Food and Wellness Program: The VAFCS Elders Food Program is dedicated to providing Indigenous Residential School Survivors, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers with essential services and resources to promote their well-being and cultural vitality. The program offers individual and group cultural sessions, workshops, and services to address health issues, alongside a daily on-site meal program that provides Elders with the food security they need to thrive.
The Elders Food Program also offers a range of other essential services, including transportation to medical appointments and cultural events, access to health and wellness programs, and support services for issues related to housing, income, and legal matters.

Elder's Bingo Program: A weekly gathering for Indigenous Elders aged 65 and up to come together to enjoy a classic game of bingo and socialize with each other. The program offers a welcoming and comfortable environment where Elders can share their stories, make new friends, and enjoy a good time. In addition to being a fun social activity, Elder Bingo has proven to be beneficial for the mental and emotional well-being of participants. The program provides Elders with a sense of community and connection, which is especially important for those who may be living alone or experiencing isolation.
