Early Psychosis Intervention Programs (EPI) - Youth & Adults - Island Health Area

Provides early identification and treatment for individuals living in the Island Health Authority area who are experiencing their first psychotic episode.
Early Psychosis Intervention programs provide informed services to clients throughout the Island Health Authority area. EPI programs aim to limit the negative impact that psychosis may have on a person's life and to ensure optimal recovery. The goal of EPI programs is to provide a bridge between youth and adult mental health services as well as between hospital and community

Services May Include:
  • Case manager
  • Client education
  • Medication management
  • Support and education for families and caregivers
  • Complete assessment of symptoms and physical functioning
  • Treatment of problems in living and other mental health issues
  • Additional comprehensive services may be offered; please inquire with individual program
Eligibility and How to Access
  • Program is for those experiencing their first episode of psychosis living in the Island Health Authority area
  • Depending on the area, EPI programs are offered for youth up to 19 years of age, young adults between 13 - 35 years of age, and adults aged 19+
  • A referral is required. Patients/clients should contact their local Mental Health & Substance Use team, or call the MHSU Navigation Link at 1-888-885-8824 for help navigating Island Health substance use, harm reduction, and mental health services. Providers see below. (Note: this is not a line for health professionals to iniatiate a referral. Line is for patients/clients to receive information and navigation support)
