Step Up Step Down (SUSD) Outreach Services - Child & Youth MHSU

Supports the stabilization of young people and their caregivers so they can make informed decisions about short and long terms goals that strengthen their mental health and wellbeing.
Step Up Step Down (SUSD) Outreach Services recognize the diverse identities, histories, and lived experiences that shape each person’s unique journey. SUSD is a voluntary program where the individual(s) being referred must consent to the service. If the referral is for a child aged 11 or younger, parent/caregiver contact information is required. This service is Monday to Friday daytime service - they do not provide urgent crisis response. Please divert any urgent crisis cases to the hospital.

Services may include:
  • Brief interventions customized to support the entire family system
  • Identify where the young person has been, where they are now, and where they hope to go
  • Provides connection to the most appropriate community partner(s)
  • Minimizes gaps in care and ensures a smooth family-centred transition to the service best suited to meet current needs
Eligibility
  • Services are for children and youth who are up to 19 years of age, who have
  • Severe mental health needs and/or substance use issues (e.g., psychosis, mood disorder, concurrent disorder, personality disorders, problematic substance use), and
  • Safety concerns such as risk of suicide, self-harm, danger to others, etc.
  • A referral is required (providers see below)
Note: Supports are available for the parent/caregiver in conjunction with the child/youth. Provider to indicate in referral form.

Hours of Operation are Monday through Friday during the daytime; generally 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Interpreter available upon request.
