The team of Lactation Consultants (who also work as either Registered Nurses or Registered Midwives) can offer lactation and feeding support visits covered by MSP for the first 6 weeks following delivery. A referral from a Doctor/Nurse Practitioner or a nurse is required for this service. If there are feeding challenges beyond 6 weeks postpartum individuals can self-refer to the program. In this case, MSP coverage doesn’t apply so there would be a cost of $150 for a one-hour visit.
The program is open to women who live in Vancouver. They can accept a small number of women living outside Vancouver in neighbouring cities (eg; Burnaby, Richmond or North Vancouver).
