Sport Programming for Underserved Youth

Provided by Chill Foundation

Chill provides programming and supplies for youth coming from poverty, group homes, justice system, mental illness, etc., to be able to participate in boardsports while overcoming challenges, developing and growing as individuals.
Chill Vancouver operates year-round with snowboard, skateboard, and stand up paddleboard programs for youth from 11 to 19 years old. Chill works with various schools, youth agencies, social programs, and boardsports partners to provide these programs with all associated costs covered and barriers to participation removed.

The programs use the process of learning boardsports, an experiential learning cycle, and a core value-driven curriculum to help youth grow personally and see that there is a path out of their current circumstances. Chill works with youth coming from a number of different challenging situations and backgrounds, including youth living in poverty, in group homes or foster care, in the juvenile justice system, and youth dealing with trauma and mental illness. Chill helps youth develop better decision-making skills and gain a broadened perspective by recognizing and celebrating individual potential.

Interested agencies can contact Chill to fill out an application. Interested individuals can contact partnered agencies to join the program. Youth participate at absolutely no cost. Agencies pay a $55-$75 application fee per program (cost varies depending on the location/sport). This is a one-time fee and not dependent on the number of youth an agency is applying for.
