Youth Addiction Support Services

Provided by Richmond Addiction Services Society

Prevention focused programs aimed at supporting youth who struggle with substance use.
The following services are provided:
  • Supporting Youth: Offers intervention and support for youth and young adults aged 12-24 who are struggling with substance use and mental health challenges. The program delivers life skill coaching such as financial literacy, employment and academic support, recreational and creative opportunities, and educational programming.
  • School's Out: School’s Out is an evidence-based, collaborative afterschool program for elementary students in Richmond. The School’s Out program aims to encourage the development of core competencies in the children that attend the group by addressing the lack of protective factors in a community. School’s Out facilitates social and emotional development, physical and mental health and well-being, connectedness, use of after-school time and exposure to novel experiences.
  • Constructive Alternative to Teen Suspension (CATS): A structured, educational program involving a mandatory 3 day commitment for youth who have violated the drug and alcohol policy in the Richmond School District. Students can be referred to the program 2 ways: 1) Violation of the drug and alcohol policy within the Richmond School District (SD #38) or 2) Attendance supported by the school administration, school counsellors as well as the parents and student for a more therapeutic intervention.
