Home Oxygen Program (HOP) - Island Health Authority region

Provides oxygen therapy to eligible residents in the Island Health region.
The Home Oxygen Program (HOP) is a funding program for adult patients who require supplemental oxygen in their homes. Oxygen equipment is provided to patients by an Island Health-approved oxygen supplier, and Respiratory Therapists provide periodic assessments and oxygen titration. Requests for home oxygen service are made by a primary healthcare provider for adult clients experiencing any of the following:
  • Asthma
  • Emphysema
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Occupational lung disease
  • Lung cancer
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Congestive heart failure
How to Access
  • In order to receive coverage for home oxygen, patients must meet the eligibility criteria and be referred by a primary healthcare provider.
  • The signed application must then be faxed directly to the approved Home Oxygen Program oxygen supplier (healthcare providers see information below for 'Hospital vs. Community HOP Applications').
