STEPS Youth Program - Supporting Mental Health Through Social & Recreational Activities

Provided by Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) - North and West Vancouver Branch

A free low-barrier recreational group that emphasizes social engagement and support through nature-based activities for North Shore youth facing mild to moderate mental health challenges.
CMHA NWV coordinates two cohorts:

Steps for individuals aged 13-18 and Steps+ for those aged 19-29. Additionally, participants have access to one-on-one support from the Steps Peer Support Team. Steps+ participants will also have access to a monthly support group where they will have the opportunity to discuss specific mental health topics in a safe and supportive peer environment.
  • Steps for youth aged 13-18 runs on Wednesday evenings @ 4:30 PM
  • Steps+ for older youth aged 19-29 runs on Tuesday evenings @ 5:30 PM

Through fun and challenging recreational activities, STEPS encourages youth to interact in a nurturing and non-judgmental environment while promoting healthy living habits. Activities like hiking, yoga and laser tag build self-confidence and strengthen both social and personal fitness goals. Activities and locations vary, bringing new STEPS adventures weekly.
