COELS K’emk’emelay Pre-employment Program (KPEP)

Provides pre-employment services to Indigenous men and women who have left federal corrections and are living in the community, as well as those in the community who are looking for additional training and skills to gain employment or to continue with schooling.

This program is designed to provide basic knowledge, tools and skills to enter a workplace environment. Program works alongside Aboriginal Brothers and Sisters who are looking to transition into sustainable employment or to continue their education. From single parents, people in recovery, people that don’t have stability or any other resources, have never worked, or have been unable to keep employment.

Four different levels with continuous intake which includes:

Level One – Building our Foundation with the 4 Dimensions of Wellness: includes Building our Foundation, pre-planning, identifying job options, establishing SMART goals. Addressing and finding supports and referrals and utilizing the Medicine Wheel to find our balance.
Level Two – Job Skills, Resumes, Reference Letters etc: There are six modules related to Job search and networks. Modules include, creating a resources checklist and navigating barriers, recognizing personal skill sets, creating resumes, cover letters and getting references, honing interview skills, networking and marketing employment skills, and developing and implementing workplan.
Level Three – Soft Skills: Social and Community Connections: Soft skills, which include: communication, listening skills, self-control, positive attitude, assertiveness, conflict resolution, empathy, taking responsibility, and a sense of humor.
Level Four – Certificates and Training: Hard Skills: Certificates and Training. You will develop a personalized plan that lists steps you can take to obtain further training and/or to get a meaningful job.

After completing this pre-employment program, Brothers and Sisters will have received some or all the following certificates:
