Community Support Services - For Street Youth

Provided by Covenant House Vancouver

Provides "as-needed" services to street youth aged 16 to 24 including street outreach and drop-in.
Covenant House helps young people who have:
  • run from physical and sexual abuse and neglect
  • been kicked out by their parents or caregivers
  • aged out of the foster care system
  • been lured to the streets by sexual predators, drug dealers, or even friends
Street Outreach:
The Street Outreach team helps kids aged 16 to 24 who are living, or at risk of living, on Vancouver’s streets. The team builds trusting relationships with street youth by meeting them where they are and by being a consistent, supportive presence in their lives. Travelling on foot, they offer food, counselling, minor medical attention, and friendship, and invite them to come to the Drop-In program for a hot meal or help to get back on their feet. The team is trained to connect vulnerable youth with psychiatrists, medical professionals, and social workers, or to bring them to the Crisis Program for safety and support.

Drop-In Centre:
Youth Workers, Social Workers and Housing Support Workers provide an array of as-needed services to young people, age 16 to 24.
At the Drop-In Centre, youth receive:
  • Connections to Youth Workers for support, counselling and personal planning
  • Access to an in-house addictions counsellor and programs focused on support and recovery
  • Appointments with mental health clinicians and psychiatrists
  • Help from a Housing Support Worker and independent living start-up kits
  • Referrals to other social services
  • Help with finding employment and referrals to job centres and training programs
  • Financial assistance to get back home, if that’s an option
  • Recreational opportunities including yoga, soccer, hockey, basketball, and baseball
  • Food, clothing and hygiene supplies, shower and laundry facilities available
  • Use of the message board, long-distance phone plan, and mailing address
Covenant House's Drop-In Centre is open Monday to Friday. Visit the website for details of scheduled services offered throughout the week.
