- Seniors Hub Council: The Seniors Hub Council is a place to take action, share ideas, and connect with like-minded seniors. Council members meet on the first Tuesday of every month, with a commitment of one year and 15 hours/month. No cost.
- Seniors Volunteer Program: Offers seniors meaningful opportunities to stay active, engaged, and connected within the community. No cost.
- Community Lunch: The Community Lunch program is open to the community. Folks gather to socialize and share a tasty, nutritious meal that includes dessert. Cost $8.
- Choose to Move: Health promotion program for older adults (~ 60+ years of age) that promotes social and physical well-being; provides older adults with motivation and support to become more active, both physically and socially. It helps participants integrate activity into their daily routine in a flexible way, meet new friends, and make positive health changes.
- ESL for Seniors: Seniors program where folks learn and practice English at various levels in a safe and fun environment. Reading materials are provided. Cost $5.
- Tech Support Drop-in Clinic: Hands-on clinic where seniors can ask questions and practice digital literacy skills. Registration is not required. No cost.
- Intermediate iPad/iPhone Class: Seniors learn intermediate digital literacy skills, building on top of basic skills. Recommended for those that have mastered basic skills and want to learn more. *Participants will need to bring their own iPad or iPhone. One-time fee of $5.
- Intercultural Craft Circle: Seniors program where participants share time together to socialize and work on individual craft projects. No cost.
- Seniors Wellness Group (in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Vietnamese): Offers a mix of socialization and exercise. Rotating weekly, folks enjoy indoor games, travel/nature films, dancing, music, and presentations by guest speakers who discuss issues relevant to older adults. No cost.
- Move, Groove and Improve (Tai-chi): This weekly program focuses on active aging and well-being. Participants will engage in a 30-minute Tai-chi session. Tai-chi is taught in Cantonese by video. No cost.
- Move, Groove and Improve (Yoga): This weekly program focuses on active aging and well-being. Participants will engage in chair yoga exercises and gentle stretching led by a registered yoga instructor. No cost.
- Seniors Shindig: Dance class for seniors that is led by an instructor. Folks have the chance to learn line dancing, hula dancing, and much more. $15 per term.
- Seniors Line Dancing: Seniors engage both mind and body by learning and practicing the basic moves that make up current line dancing today. No dance experience required. $15 per term.
- South Asian Men’s Group: Senior's recreation and socializing group where participants meet weekly to discuss issues in the community, enjoy delicious snacks and meals, and take part in occasional bus trips. Men will learn about different topics related to health and well-being through shared experiences and occasional guest speakers. Please note the program is conducted in Punjabi. No cost.
- South Asian Senior Women’s Wellness Group: Seniors program for South Asian women to gather with a light snack and tea, share stories, sing songs, and socialize with each other. Please note the program is conducted in Punjabi. No cost.
- Cook with Lucenda (Online):: Seniors meet virtually to learn new recipes, cook together and socialize every first and third Friday of the month. *Participants must have their own device to access Zoom; *Zoom link will be sent upon registration.
- English Caregiver Support Group: Offers educational workshops and a sharing circle designed to enhance caregivers’ knowledge and confidence in caregiving and self-care, build supportive networks, and strengthen social connections. All languages and cultures welcome.
- Caregivers One-on-one support (In Person / By Phone ): Provides individualized support based on each caregiver’s needs, including information and resources, referrals, home visits, and phone-buddy calls.
- Caregivers Self-care plan (In Person / By Phone ): Supports caregivers in developing a personalized self-care plan. Together, participants explore small, positive changes that can make a meaningful difference in their well-being.
- Chinese Caregivers Support Group (Online on Zoom): A Cantonese- and Mandarin-language support group that assists caregivers with caregiving and self-care while helping them build stronger social connections.
- Punjabi Caregiver Support: With strong language support and culture respect, participants learn together to make the caregiving process easier and more enjoyable.
- Better at Home: A range of non-medical services offered to older adults 65+ living in the East South Vancouver Area to assist them in living independently within their homes. Services include Grocery shopping & Delivery / Frozen Meal Delivery / Transportation / Light Home Repair / Light House Keeping / Light Yard Work and Snow Removal / Friendly Visiting & Calling / Information and Referral. Services are charged on a sliding scale based on income. This is assessed during the intake process by looking at the senior’s household income.
- Grocery shopping / delivery: Grocery shopping and delivery provided by volunteers every 2 weeks. Each order must include a minimum of 5 items and may include up to 25 items. Payments for both groceries and delivery can be made by cash, credit card, debit card, or cheque. Waitlist in effect.
- Frozen meal delivery: Provides nutritious, prepared frozen meals for seniors who are unable to cook and require additional support. Meals are $8.00 each, and soups are $6.00 with a minimum order of 2 items and a maximum of 6 items per delivery. Payment can be made by cash, credit card, or debit card. Deliveries are typically scheduled for Thursday mornings and afternoons, and Friday mornings (schedule subject to change). Waitlist in effect.
- Light home repair: Provides minor home repair services to help seniors maintain a safe and functional home. Services include but are not limited to, replacing light bulbs and batteries, tightening screws, etc.
- Light housekeeping: Assistance with light housekeeping tasks that are physically difficult for a senior to perform. Housekeeping services are provided by trained staff. All cleaning supplies and equipment must be provided by the participant. Housekeeping services may include but are not limited to: dusting, floor cleaning, vacuuming, laundry and bed making, washroom cleaning, dishwashing, kitchen cleaning (no internal appliances). Housekeeping services do NOT provide: deep cleaning, personal hygiene assistance (bathing or grooming), medical or physical assistance (including medication), meal preparation and/or pet care.
- Light yard work: Provides light yard work services including lawn mowing and general yard clean-up. Equipment must be provided by the client.
- Snow removal: Offers snow removal outside seniors’ homes after a snowstorm. Services are provided upon request. Equipment must be provided by the client.
- Friendly visits: Provides companionship through phone or in-person visits to support seniors. These visits foster social connections and help seniors feel engaged in their community. Services are delivered by trained volunteers.
- Information & Referral: Offers free, confidential information and referral services to seniors ages 55 and older. Assists seniors in navigating through government systems, and fill out application forms, access information, services and resources. Available in English, Cantonese, Hindi, Mandarin, and Punjabi.
- Vancouver Affordable Seniors’ Transportation (VAST): Transportation support forseniors 55+ living in the East Vancouver area. Cost is a $5 suggested donation per round-trip ride. Available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30 am to 3:45 pm.
- Social Meal Program: Offers workshops on topics such as health, hobbies, and overall well-being, followed by a nutritious lunch. The program runs on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at the Killarney Gardens Recreation Room, and on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday at the Menno Court Recreation Room.
Membership is valid for 1 year from the registration/renewal date. Annual SVNH Membership fees are payable by credit/debit card, cash or cheque. An annual membership is Children/Youth, $ 5.00; Seniors, $ 5.00; Adults, $5.00; Family, $5.00.
