First Nations Women and Youth Services
Home Health Care, Indigenous Services, Mental Health - Adult & Senior, Transportation, and Youth Services
Provided by Pacific Association of First Nations Women (PAFNW)
- Urban Butterflies: This program gives girls a greater awareness of how to prevent risk factors and improve health outcomes of young First Nations/Metis youth while also giving them unique and fun opportunities to work and learn cultural art and dance, learn about their spirituality and gain skills to survive emotional pain associated with living in foster care away from your family. The older girls from the Mentor Me group provide a much needed support system to do many community activities and cultural projects to enhance their lives together and build promises. Urban Butterflies meet every second Saturday from 11am to 3pm at 3284 East Broadway for girls ages 7-14 years who are currently in foster care. Please email Joy at homecareservices@pafnw.com for an application.
- Languages: The Pacific Association of First Nations Women is facilitating a Cree and Ojibway Language Program. Several elders who are fluent in either language have volunteered to be teachers and pass down their knowledge.
- Home Care Services: Provides specialized home care in a culturally appropriate respectful way that supports the long term wellness of the Indigenous community. Services include respite for foster parents, supervised access, childminding, housekeeping, and transporting clients. Please email Joy at homecareservices@pafnw.ca for more information.
