Migrant workers centre provides free legal advocacy services to migrant workers who are dealing with employment standards or immigration law issues.
Immigration Law: Offers assistance to caregivers and other migrant workers with immigration issues, such as free legal information and advice to full representation.
Immigration services include:
  • Education on rights and obligations under the Live-in Caregiver and Temporary Foreign Worker Programs
  • Applying for permanent residence
  • Work permits and work permit renewals
  • Travel documents (temporary resident visa)
  • Temporary resident permits for victims of trafficking in persons
  • Restoration of legal status in Canada
Employment Law: Offers assistance to caregivers and other migrant workers with problems related to their employment.
Employment services include:
  • Education on rights as a worker in British Columbia
  • Assistance filing a complaint against your current/previous employer with the British Columbia Employment Standards Branch (e.g. to recover lost wages or illegal recruitment fees)
  • Assistance filing a claim in Small Claims Court (e.g. for breach of your employment contract)
  • Assistance applying for employment insurance (EI)
Labour Exploitation & Trafficking Law: Offers assistance to people in situations of labour exploitation or labour trafficking through free legal services for their legal needs and other civil complaints.

Workshops: MWC holds regular workshops for migrant workers on applying for permanent residence. These workshops are held twice a month and are always held on a Saturday. The workshop covers details on permanent residence eligibility requirements, highlights common mistakes and potential issues, etc. Registration is required due to space restrictions.
