Drug checking service that checks for fentanyl and other cutting agents.
Fraser Health is offering drug checking at various locations across the region. This is a free and confidential service.

The drug checking utilizes BTNX Fentanyl Test Strips™ that enable individuals to check their drugs for contaminants like fentanyl. Drugs are checked with a test strip. Then dilute the substance with a small amount of water and a positive or negative for fentanyl is revealed within minutes.

Drug checking for all chemicals is done by the Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) machine can identify multiple (up to 6) ingredients in a sample. Examples include heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA, fentanyl, benzodiazepines and various cutting agents. The test takes about 10 minutes from start to finish. A 5mg sample (about the size of a match head) is needed.
