Caregiver Supports and Phone Line

Provided by Family Caregivers of BC

Informs, supports, and educates on issues of concern to family caregivers. Offers one-to-one support in person, or province-wide via a toll-free phone line.
BC Caregiver Support Line:
Unpaid family and friend caregivers can call the free toll-free number for one-on-one telephone support. It is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 - 4:00 pm and return calls within one business day. Trained staff offer:
  • Emotional support and a listening ear
  • Help with navigating healthcare and other systems
  • Guidance to connect you with community programs and services

Common reasons caregivers call include:
  • Managing caregiving and other responsibilities
  • Help with system navigation
  • Understanding financial options
  • Managing stress, emotions and loneliness
  • Navigating family dynamics
  • Planning for the future

For additional support or if your caregiving situation is complex, clients can be refered to the 1:1 Caregiver Coaching service. Clients can also be connected with caregiver support groups in the area or virtually.
Referrals for Provincial Family Caregiver Program:
Family Caregivers of BC encourage and welcome referrals from family, friends and health care providers. Caregivers may also self refer. Fill out the online referral form, or download the PDF of the referral form and fax it to 1-250-361-2660. A follow-up with the family caregiver will be made within 2 business days.

Additional Caregiver Support Services provided include:
  • Toll-Free Caregiver Support Line accessible anywhere in the Province: Free 1:1 telephone support available anywhere in BC. Supports anyone caring for a family member, friend, or neighbour. Available Mon-Fri, 8:30 am to 4 pm and return calls within 1 business day.
  • 1:1 Caregiver Coaching Sessions: Free 1:1 coaching helps caregivers create personal wellness plans, develop advocacy skills and navigate complex caregiving situations. Offers up to four (4) 60 minute coaching sessions.
  • Caregiver Support Groups: Free monthly support groups provide caregivers with an opportunity to share their experience and build a sense of community. In-person and virtual options available.
  • Webinars and workshops
  • Virtual Caregiver Learning Centre: The Caregiver Resource Centre offers print, audio, and video resources for caregivers to enhance their resilience and learning.
