Cervical Health Awareness Month

January is Cervical Health Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness about cervical cancer prevention, screening, and early detection. Cervical cancer, largely preventable with proper screening and vaccination, remains a significant health concern for women worldwide. Cervical cancer is primarily caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), a common sexually transmitted infection. Regular screenings, such as Pap tests and HPV tests, can detect precancerous changes in the cervix early when treatment is most effective.

Patients can now access reminder and result letters for breast, colon and lung screening programs as of November 28, 2024 on Health Gateway. This is an addition to cervix screening letters that have been available online since February 2024. These digital letters are identical to paper letters mailed out to screening program participants.
